Some places are fun to visit once.
And then there are the places you return to — year after year — because they’ve become part of your family’s story.
That’s what Austin Lake is for so many of our guests.
We’ve watched families come for a weekend and turn it into a tradition. Kids who once rode bikes around the campground grow up and bring their own children back. Friends meet here and stay connected long after the season ends.
Traditions That Last Beyond the Season
Ask returning campers what makes Austin Lake special, and you’ll hear familiar themes:
- Unplugged family time
- Simple days by the water
- Campfires that last late into the evening
- Friendly neighbors who become friends
- A place where kids can explore freely
Research from the American Psychological Association shows that family traditions help strengthen emotional bonds and create long-term stability for children. Camping traditions work the same way — they give families something consistent to look forward to each year.
Rooted in the History of Austin Lake
Austin Lake has always been more than a campground. As shared on our History page, generations have gathered here to enjoy the lake, the quiet valley setting, and the simple joy of time outdoors.
Our Ode to Austin Lake captures it perfectly — a place where life slows down, where campfires glow under starry skies, and where the memories you make stay with you long after you leave.
Simple Moments, Strong Memories
Families return for the classics:
- Swimming in the spring-fed lake
- Fishing from the shoreline or boat
- Kids riding bikes around the park
- Evening sunsets over the water
- Stories shared around the fire
Some things here are old. Some things are new. But the feeling stays the same.
Closed for Winter — But Traditions Continue
While Austin Lake RV Park & Campground is closed for the winter and will reopen on May 1, the tradition doesn’t pause. Families talk about the fun they had, the friends they made, and the weekends they’re already planning for next season.
If you’re already part of the Austin Lake story, we look forward to welcoming you back.
If you haven’t started your tradition yet, maybe this is the year.
